Improper Conduct: Hostile Hearts

Season One of a serialized legal romance dramedy

When FBI profiler Bridget Quinn crawls through a Miami drainage pipe to save a missing seven-year-old, she thinks the worst part of her day is the algae in her hair. Then she sees the news coverage and defense attorney Beckett Hale taking credit for her rescue without so much as mentioning her name.

Brilliant, snarky, and devastatingly well-dressed, Beckett is everything Bridget can't stand about the legal system: all flash, no substance. He defends creeps in designer suits while she saves children in the field. They should never have to see each other again.

But Miami's justice system has other plans.

Working together means late nights in law offices, stakeouts that require sharing a car, and the uncomfortable realization that Beckett Hale might actually give a damn about justice. It also means Bridget has to admit that the man who can read her like a case file might be the only person who truly sees her.

From high-stakes courtrooms to Miami's humid streets, from shared edibles to pinky fingers held in silence, Bridget and Beckett discover that the line between enemies and lovers is thinner than a legal brief—and twice as dangerous to cross.

Because when you're fighting for the truth in a world built on lies, the biggest risk isn't losing the case.

It's losing your heart to the one person who was supposed to be the enemy.

FAQs

What is Ream?

Ream is a subscription platform designed specifically for fiction. Think Patreon, but built for readers and writers.

What is Improper Conduct?

Improper Conduct is the name of my legal romance dramedy serial! The first ten cases cover one season, called Hostile Hearts. It’s about an FBI profiler named Bridget, and a defense attorney named Beckett, and how they find themselves glowing closer together even when their cases often put them on opposite sides.

How does Ream work?

It is a subscription based site. So, you can browse my tier options, choose what works right for you, and for a small monthly fee a new chapter every Friday (roughly 2500 words, about 10 minutes of reading time) about Bridget and Beckett. You can cancel your subscription at any time!

When do new episodes release?

New chapters go up every Friday! Each chapter is around 2,500 words (which is about 10-15 minutes of reading time), give or take. An episode can be anywhere between 5,000-10,000 words, so usually you get two new episodes every month, but there might be some episodes that cover a longer time span.

Is this a cozy?

No, this is not a cozy mystery. And it isn’t a crime caper either! I know, shocking. This is a romance, primarily, in a Case Of The Week style. Sometimes in the courtroom, sometimes in the field, sometimes both. Swearing and violence can occur on page. Romance scenes, while steamy, focus mainly on the emotional connection. Some cases include references to death, missing children, and abuse. Themes of trauma, legal drama, and mental health run throughout the story. Reader discretion is advised. As a storyteller, my desire is to entertain readers, not harm them. So please check out the full list of trigger warnings in the beginning of Hostile Hearts if you need them.
